Only one trimorphic form species,Macrotermes declivatus,was discovered and described by the authors in southern Yunnan,China,It occurs in south subtropical area.Up till now,only two trimorphic form species of the genus Macrotermes was recorded in China.

This paper reports two new species of Coenosiini from China.Type specimens are respectively deposited in Institute of Zoology,the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Department of Biology of Shenyang Normal College.
The present paper deals with 3 species of the genus Temnostoma Le Peletier et Serville,of which two species are new to science and T.vespiforme L.is the new record to China.A key to the known Chinese species is given.All the type specimens are deposited in the Insect Collection of Shanghai Agricultural College.
The present paper deals with a new millipede collected in the cave of Baoshan City,western Yunnan.
Daidzein [3 mg/(100 g body weight·day)] was injected subcutaneously for 16 days in male,female and castrated male rats.To the male rats,average daily body weight gain increased by 14.7% (P<0.05),feed consumption to body weight gain ratio decreased by 12.0%,hind leg muscle weight,total RNA content of hind leg muscle increased significantly,and no apparent difference was found in total DNA content.Blood urea nitrogen decreased significantly,whereas serum testosterone,estradiol,β-endorphin and growth hormone increased obviously.To the castrated male rats,no considerable differences were found in average daily body weight gain and hind leg muscle weight,although concentrations of serum growth hormone,β-endophin and testosterone increased significantly.However,the testosterone level of castrated male rats was about 8.0% of that of intact male rats.To the female rats,the average daily body weight gain decreased by 19.0% (P<0.01).The levels of serum testosterone,estradiol and growth hormone significantly decreased.The results showed that the effects of daidzein on muscle growth and some endogenous hormone levels in rats exhibited sex difference.The promoting effect of daidzein on male rats seems depending on the function of testis.

This paper reported LDH isozymes about four kinds of tissues of kidney,muscle,liver,and heart in five species of Colubridae:Opheodrys major (Guenther),Natrix tigrina lateralis (Berthold),Zaocys dhumnades (Cantor),Natrix annularis (Hallowell),Dinodon refozonatum (Cantor) by using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and optical density scanning.The results indicated that LDH isozyme of snake had tissue specificity and different LDH zymograms in each tissue of the animals,LDH zymograms may be used to identified species as one kind of index of biochemistry.In this paper,using A/B ratio of LDH isozymes of various tissue in five species established the matrix of euclidean distance coefficient and carried it analysis of fuzzy cluster.The reporter discussed preliminary the relation among five species in this paper.

Ram spermatozoa obtained energy from glycolysis and a vast amount of lactic acid was produced under the non-oxygen condition.In this paper,We studied the effects of carnosine and gossypol on the glycolytic pathway of the ram spermatozoa by examing the quantity of absorbed fructose and produced lactic acid in the sperm.The results indicated that:(1)Carnosine (4 Mm) significantly increased the glycolysis of ram spermatozoa and stimulated them to absorb the fructose.(2)Gossypol (12 Mm) had no inhibitory action on glycolysis of the ram spermatozoa,but could partly reduce the effects of carnosine on the glycolysis of them.
The effects of epidermal growth factor (EGF) on the regeneration of artificially wounded cornea epiderm were tested in 5 monkeys (Macaca mulatta,aged 2-3 years).The wounded right eyes of the experimental monkeys were treated with EGF(130 μg/ml) extracted from the submaxillary gland of male mouse,one drop per each eye,4 times one day,while the wounded left eyes of the same monkeys were treated with axenic solution of 0.9% NaCl (control).The results showed that the wounded cornea of the right eyes were recovered in 3-4 days while that of the left eyes were recovered in 5-6 days.The recovery of the right eyes were faster than that of the left eyes.It suggested that the EGF from mouse submaxillary gland can be used for healing wounded cornea.
A respiration rate compensation throught thermal acclimation is demonstrated by E.sinensis with 25℃ acclimated animals having lower respiration rate than 10℃ acclimated animals.Eyestalk factors are found to be involved in rate compensation.Acute heating E.sinensis does not creat a R-T response following the vant Hoff-Arrhenius law.At lower temperatures (10-16℃),both 10℃ and 25℃ acclimated animals show mean Q values higher than 2.At higher temperatures (16-30℃),both 10℃ and 25℃ acclimated animals are not sensitive to temperature,having Q values smaller than 2,suggesting that rate compensation does not take place exclusively through long term thermal acclimation and that it can also occur very quickly in face of acute changes in temperature.In this case,the rate compensation may involve a new category of mechanisms.
This study deals with the evaluation of Gobiocypris rarus as a toxicity test material.The acute toxicity of chromium,copper,zinc and pentachlorophenol (PCP) to Gobiocypris rarus were determined under renewal condition with a hardness of 200 mg/L (as CaCO) at Ph7.8±0.2 in water held at 24-25℃.The control limits of 24 h and 96 h LC of potassium dichromate to 2 d old Gobiocypris rarus were 263.6-334.7 and 115.3-178.5 mg KCrO/L (n=8).The values of the acute toxicity (96 h LC) to 2 d old Gobiocypris rarus ranged from 52.2 μg/L for copper to 52000 μg/L for chromium,and were ranked in order of toxicity:Cu>PCP>Zn>Cr.The results of this study indicated that Gobiocypris rarus may be a proper animal for toxicity test.

Extensive polymorphism within D.virilis species has been studied in this paper.We analyzed physical maps of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) from five populations distributing in Chinese continent using nine restriction endonucleases (XbaⅠ,EcoRⅠ,PstⅠ,HindⅢ,BglⅡ,SacⅠ,ScaⅠ,EcoRⅤ and PvuⅡ).Five genotypes of mtDNA are found in all the five populations.The genetic difference π between the five genotypes is 0.46%-1.76%.Genetic variation within population π[ij] is 0.00%-0.33%.Genetic variation between populations d[xy] is 0.00%-0.82%.The γ[st] of D.virilis species in Chinese continent is 24.62%.We have found the life environment of D.virilis has an effect on genetic variations of mtDNA,but not found the relationship between geographic distance (latitute degree) and inter-populational genetic difference (d[xy]).
The analysis of calling songs of three frog species from Hangzhou area had been made with computer analysis technique in this paper.The song of Rana nigromaculata was composed of four pulses,the pulse rate (PR) was 8-11 times/sec,the duration of each song was about 370-510 ms,each pulse had three power peaks,and the frequency of highest power peak was between 2.0 and 2.4 kHz.In Rana limnocharis,the PR of the song,composed of 6-7 spindle shape pulses,was 71.7 times/sec,each song had 84.25±7.12 ms duration and its MPF was 1.395±0.023 kHz in each pluse.There were some differences on the structrue,power spectrum and temporal parameters of song between Hangzhous and Shensi Islands.According to the analysis of this experiment,the variant songs of Rana limnocharis had large proportion of pure tones (about 1.28 kHz).The song of Microhyla ornata was composed of 11-13 pulses,and the duration was 16.06±2.08 ms in each pulse.The PR was 36.23 times/sec,the songs duration was 308.64±22.93 ms,the MPF was 1.36±0.02 kHz.As compared with the song characteristics of this frog in Xuancheng area of Anhuei Province,the song of Microhyla ornata in Hangzhou was much different from in Xuancheng area.The difference in physical structure of songs in three species of frogs might be corelated to the structure of their vocal sac,and the reason that the same species in different areas had different song probably was difference of their habitats.
