The Effect of Egf on The Regeneration of Artificially Wounded Cornea Epiderm in Rhesus Monkeys

  • The effects of epidermal growth factor (EGF) on the regeneration of artificially wounded cornea epiderm were tested in 5 monkeys (Macaca mulatta,aged 2-3 years).The wounded right eyes of the experimental monkeys were treated with EGF(130 μg/ml) extracted from the submaxillary gland of male mouse,one drop per each eye,4 times one day,while the wounded left eyes of the same monkeys were treated with axenic solution of 0.9% NaCl (control).The results showed that the wounded cornea of the right eyes were recovered in 3-4 days while that of the left eyes were recovered in 5-6 days.The recovery of the right eyes were faster than that of the left eyes.It suggested that the EGF from mouse submaxillary gland can be used for healing wounded cornea.
